Web Ranking of Universities and Colleges in Nepal

As there is no trend of ranking of Universities or Colleges in Nepal based on educational and other academic conditions from any official body, its hard to determine the actual rank of the academic institutions. But an independent body, Webometrics ranks various colleges and universities around the globe considering various indicators. It takes into account both the volume of the Web contents (number of web pages and files) in the website and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received.

Webometrics has listed only few engineering colleges in Nepal among which Institute of Engineering(Pulchowk Campus) ranks higher and Kantipur Engineering College follows thereafter.  Advanced College of Engineering ranks on ranks on 23rd position among all but secures 3rd considering only IOE affiliated engineering colleges.

The ranking is published with the motive of enhancing the presence of the academic and research institutions on the Web and promote the open access publication of scientific results. Cybermetrics Lab(Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) which currently has database of more than 12,000 universities worldwide started the ranking of universities in 2004 and is updated every January and July of each year. It aims for providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world based on their web presence and impact but not to evaluate the websites of the universities, their design or usability or the popularity of their contents according to the number of visits or visitors.
